THE GOODBYE TIGER CONCERT
STATE THEATRE SYDNEY
2ND & FINAL SHOW
FRIDAY SEPT 4

Richard Clapton is an icon of Australian music.

In an acclaimed career glittering with highlights, music icon Richard Clapton undertakes an Australian music industry first with his next concert outing – recreating his landmark “Goodbye Tiger” album in one very special concert.

Clapton will perform the much-loved 1977 album in track order in its entirety with his band including musicians who played on the recording.

The platinum selling Number One album is often cited as one of Australia’s greatest albums.  Produced by Richard Batchens and released on iconic Festival Records, it featured the tracks.....  “Down in the Lucky Country”, “Wild Child”, Goodbye Tiger”, I Can Talk To You”, “Deep Water”,  “Out On The Edge Again”, “Hiding From the Light”, “Wintertime in Amsterdam”.

Richard Clapton began his recording career in 1973 with the release of Prussian Blue then there were hits like “Girls on the Avenue”, “Blue Bay Blues”, “Suit Yourself”, but it wasn’t until 1977 that Richard mastered the most difficult of show-business acts; the highwire that requires the balance of radio-friendly tunes and candid, from-the- heart lyrics. These two came together on the Goodbye Tiger album. The album became an instant Oz rock classic. In 1977 Clapton became a household name, he was voted Rolling Stone Artist of the Year and Goodbye Tiger went to Number 1 with Platinum sales and made its mark as one of the greatest Australian albums of all time.

Ten years after his first release, Richard Clapton was a tribal elder to whom younger artists like Jimmy Barnes, INXS and Cold Chisel turned as a mentor. INXS asked Clapton to produce their second album, Underneath the Colours, and they became firm friends. They, and Cold Chisel, returned the favour on Clapton’s The Great Escape album. INXS drummer Jon Farriss produced The Glory Road album, and few records capture the craziness of the late 1980s as well as The Glory Road.

These albums brought Clapton’s melodic gifts and his love of electric rock & roll into lockstep. There were always the words though. No one better documented the 1980s than Richard. Richard frequently went to the edge — emotionally, politically, financially — and sent back his incisive postcards.

In 2005 he set about making the first acoustic album of his career. Clapton stripped back some of his favourite songs – re-imagining them in a different environment. The result was his 17th album – REWIRED. In 2008 Richard
performed a highly acclaimed sell out concert celebrating his 35th anniversary as a recording artist at Sydney’s State Theatre. A live album from that show ensued and was released to critical acclaim later that year.

For the first time ever for one night only Richard will perform Goodbye Tiger in its entirety with original band members plus some special guests and then perform a set of his greatest hits from that period.

Warner Music will release a specially remastered version of Goodbye Tiger with a bonus content containing the 4 tracks that Richard recorded for the Highway One soundtrack.

As a special bonus with every ticket purchased the LIVE at the State Theatre CD is included.
